Who is Samantha and why did she create a website?
I'm Samantha, the creator of this page. Two of my children have diagnoses that I never expected that they would have. In the past few years we've gotten diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Dysgraphia, and an eating disorder called ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder.)
I'm a very open person, and I'll talk to anyone who is interested about my boys. Over the years I have received many phone calls from friends, and friends of friends who have a child they are concerned about. I'm not a doctor or a therapist but I can give Mom-to-mom advice, and I'm always happy to do so.
In 2016 I created a safe, private Facebook group for moms like me who need a place to ask questions and share frustrations and thoughts without the judgement of others. That group quickly grew into a supportive, wonderful environment that I'm incredibly proud of.
Since 2014 I've been blogging for Kveller.com and Groknation.com, often about my boys and our journey. I thought it was time for me to bring my network of moms and professionals together to help others. That is what thespecialmoms.com is meant to be- a place for moms not to feel alone, guilty, or judged. Welcome!
